Volunteer Spotlight

We’d like to take a moment during Volunteer Appreciation Month to highlight some of the people that make the Westchester Food Pantry so special. Thank you to all our volunteers who make our mission possible!

Janet Flores

Janet Flores has volunteered with the Pantry for nearly 10 years. She states “It is a family here. We know our clients, we see their kids grow, we make sure everyone feels welcome.”

Janet started as a client choice volunteer back when the Pantry was located in the Westchester Village Hall. She then moved to registration and has been a registration volunteer ever since. “This Pantry has everything, including empathy. I just love it here!”

Carla Nelson

Carla Nelson joined the Pantry in 2020 and serves in a variety of ways: set up, special events, client choice and registration. “I just love helping people,” she said.

“Over the years we’ve seen more and more clients, and we serve a diverse population. Everyone is welcoming and friendly.”

Carla especially like how all the volunteers work together and that everything is super organized thanks to Pantry Manager Carol and Assistant Pantry Manager Alice.

Harriet Gut

Harriet Gut started volunteering in January of 2021. She’s served in many ways: set up, client service, registration, monthly floor maintenance, outreach and the Souper Bowl Committee, and often volunteers with her grandchildren.

“I love being at events and people stop to say what a great job the Pantry is doing in the community. Also, I love seeing how the meetings and planning for the Souper Bowl culminate in a successful and meaningful event,” Harriet said.
